1. Do you like history?

Yes. I’m into reading about the past events of Vietnam and other countries. The historical period of the Nguyen dynasty which was the last imperial family of my country is always of interest to me.

2. Do you think it’s important to study history?

Studying history is important because it allows us to understand our past, which in turn allows us to understand our present. If we want to know how and why our world is the way it is today, we have to look to history for answers.

3. Where do you study history?

As a student, I studied history largely at school. But learning about important events in history through textbooks is really monotonous. I believe that going to museums or searching for objective facts on the Internet is far more fascinating.

1. How is history taught in Vietnam?

Well, passive learning was the pattern during my school years. The history teacher stood in front of the class and gave direct information and instruction to the students and we jotted down everything she said in our notebooks. It’s really monotonous and exhausting!

Học thụ động là mô hình học trong những năm học của tôi ở trường. Giáo viên dạy lịch sử đứng trước lớp và đưa ra thông tin và hướng dẫn trực tiếp cho học sinh và chúng tôi ghi lại tất cả những gì bà ấy nói vào vở của mình. Nó thực sự nhàm chán và mệt mỏi!

2. Is there any difference between teaching history through books and movies?/ What is the effective way of learning history, by reading books or watching videos?

I believe that each option has its own merits and demerits. For beginners, watching movies is a good choice. Vivid images and audios from movies can help inspire people to get to know more about history, but they often blend fantasy and fact, thus becoming less trustworthy sources of information. As for books, when one wishes to have a deeper insight, they are the better option. But, as I mentioned before, learning history through books can be less inspirational.

Đối với sách, khi một người muốn có một cái nhìn sâu sắc hơn, đây là lựa chọn phù hợp hơn. Nhưng, như tôi đã đề cập trước đây, học lịch sử qua sách có thể không mang lại cảm hứng bằng.

3. Why are there many children who do not like to learn history?

Well, I can think of several reasons for this fact at the moment. The first one is that most children are not mature enough to take a keen interest in wars that happened in the past. I mean, at that age, what is of interest to them is animated movies and video games. The second reason is that they are not conscious of the significance of history. And it’s the parents who shoulder the responsibility to raise their awareness of this issue.

Và chính các bậc cha mẹ phải gánh vác trách nhiệm nâng cao nhận thức của chúng về vấn đề này.
