  • roles of teachers and peers in learning
  • studying abroad
  • tuition fees
  • corporal punishment or firm discipline for young children

Trong bài viết này, IELTS Thanh Loan xin gợi ý với bạn những ý tưởng thông dụng nhất về 3 sub-topics, đó là: “coeducation and single-sex education”, “education in developing countries”“higher education”.

I. COEDUCATION VS SINGLE-SEX EDUCATION

1. Positives of coeducation

a. Learning respect

Coeducation is beneficial for boys as it gives them the chance to learn how to behave around the opposite sex at an early age.

Teachers will be able to educate boys to respect women, dismiss gender misconceptions, and differentiate between rude and chivalrous manners.

In the future, this may lead to a more balanced society where women can be treated as equal to men.

b. Learning social skills

At the same time, both boys and girls will gain benefits as they can understand the other gender’s perspectives on various issues.
(Hơn nữa, cả các bé nam và nữ đều có thể hiểu rõ hơn về góc nhìn của giới tính còn lại về nhiều vấn đề khác nhau.)

Coeducation gives every child the chance to be in an environment that mirrors the real world.

Therefore, he or she may become more confident about expressing his or her opinion in the presence of people of the opposite gender, have a higher opinion of himself or herself, and foster effective teamwork.

2. Positives of single-sex education

The first reason why single-sex education may be beneficial is that boys and girls are different in nature. For example, there may be literature books that feature strong heroines, or books with an emotional story that will be better perceived by girls than by boys. The curriculum should be tailored so as to best fit the needs and characters of each gender.

The second benefit is a more relaxed environment. Boys and girls in single-sex education do not have to worry about impressing the other gender. Thus, they can focus better during tutorials and stay clear of unnecessary misconduct.

Last but not least, in some countries, single-sex education should be implemented so as to respect the cultural norms or religious requirements of that particular country.

II. EDUCATION IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

1. Problems

The first barrier to education in developing countries is a lack of access to schools. There are still areas with only one school to serve a large population, or areas with no school at all. Furthermore, even if there is a school, the roads or travel options to reach there may be limited. Despite their desire to go to school, many children may still find an education inaccessible.

Many children in developing countries have to work from an early age to support their families. Thus, they don’t have time to receive an education.

Another problem is the low literacy rate in developing countries. Illiterate children find it impossible to go to school if they are unable to understand books or write down their opinions.

2. Solutions

Firstly, the problem in developing countries is that they don’t have enough budget to build schools or roads. Developed countries can thus help them by offering donations. However, some developing countries must overcome their corruption problem to ensure that all financial aids are used for the correct purpose.

Secondly, philanthropists around the world can also help by organizing charity programs to build Internet networks, provide computers, or technological training. Direct help from individuals can often be more reliable than governments or organizations.

III. HIGHER EDUCATION

1. Positives

The biggest benefit of receiving higher education to an individual is a better employment prospect. Economies are becoming more and more knowledge-based. Most highly-paid jobs require specific knowledge and skills. A degree will open the door to these opportunities.

Furthermore, repetitive manual jobs will soon be done by machines. To avoid being marginalized, a person needs a university degree.

2. Negatives

However, for a nation to maintain a healthy economy, it will need a diverse workforce. Manual labor will always be needed in jobs that do not require knowledge such as construction workers…

On a personal level, people may also decide that higher education is not suitable for them due to their cognitive ability, or their inability to shoulder the financial burden of a college education.
(Về mặt cá nhân, mỗi người vẫn có thể quyết định rằng việc học đại học không phù hợp với mình do khả năng tiếp thu của họ, hoặc do họ không thể chịu đựng gánh nặng tài chính từ việc học đại học.)

Highly-gifted individuals may also find the curriculums in universities too restrictive, thus deciding to pursue their own path for more freedom.
