1. POSITIVES OF SPACE EXPLORATION

Firstly, space exploration helps enhance our knowledge and understanding of outer space, therefore, it is useful in addressing some problems that challenge our modern world. For example, thanks to some space programs, we know more about the atmosphere and therefore better predict the weather and natural disasters.

Secondly, space exploration paves the way for advanced technology. For example, with the introduction of space programs, satellite television has become possible, which enables people to watch global events from every corner of the world.

Space exploration creates jobs in many fields such as engineers, research assistants, technicians, mechanics, etc.

Civilizations of extra-terrestrial beings may be far advanced than that of ours, and this may be beneficial for us to learn from them, especially in fields like nuclear war and global pollution.

The Earth is becoming polluted and overcrowded. Space research will solve this issue by locating habitable lands on other planets.

2. NEGATIVES OF SPACE EXPLORATION

Firstly, space missions can cost a substantial amount of money for training astronauts, building rockets, space shuttles, and developing new technologies. This money can be better invested in other urgent issues on earth.

Secondly, space research can put the lives of astronauts at risk. Despite the invention of some unmanned spacecraft, which is supposed to reduce human involvement in dangerous tasks, accidents can still happen.

Thirdly, debris from spacecraft or satellites can pollute the universe, leading to environmental destruction.

Sending messages to intelligent life forms on other planets can be dangerous as we have not been sure whether they are friendly or not. There would be unexpected visits or even attacks from them.

Moreover, space exploration for establishing contact with extra-terrestrials is quite impractical because they are hundreds of light-years away from our planet, which means that it would take hundreds of years for extra-terrestrial messages to reach us, and a further few hundred years for our reply to reach them.
