1, complexion (noun) /kəmˈplek.ʃən/ 

• Định nghĩa: texture and color of the skin of the face 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: nước da  
• Ví dụ: This is a young girl with a fair complexion. 

2, fair-skinned (adjective) /feər skɪnd/ 

• Định nghĩa: light-skinned 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: làn da sáng màu
• Ví dụ: Fair-skinned people who spend a great deal of time in the sun have the greatest risk of skin cancer.

3, have a youthful appearance (phrase)

• Định nghĩa: to look young 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: Có vẻ bề ngoài trẻ khỏe
• Ví dụ: There are many simple ways to have a youthful appearance. 

4, pointed face (noun phrase) /ˈpɔɪntɪd feɪs/

• Định nghĩa: the opposite of a round face
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: Mặt cằm V-line
• Ví dụ: It has a long body, fine bones, a pointed face, and a silky, medium-length coat

5, look young for one’s age (phrase)

• Định nghĩa: you look younger than you really are 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: nhìn trẻ hơn so với tuổi
• Ví dụ: People who look young for their age enjoy a longer life than those who look older than their years.

6, to get on a bit  (phrase)

• Định nghĩa: to be getting old 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: trở nên già đi
• Ví dụ: My grandfather is getting on a bit now so he can’t walk as well as he used to. 

 7, good looking (adjective) /ˌɡʊdˈlʊk.ɪŋ/

• Định nghĩa: attractive 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: ưa nhìn
• Ví dụ: Mary’s new boyfriend is good looking. 

8, angular face (noun) /ˈæŋɡjələ feɪs/

• Định nghĩa: usually having wide cheekbones, broad forehead and a deep jawline.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: mặt xương xương
• Ví dụ: He was older and hid behind a harsh, angular face and a tiny mustache.

9, heart-shaped face (noun) /hɑːt-ʃeɪpt feɪs/

• Định nghĩa: If your chin is pointed and your forehead is the widest part of your face, you have a heart-shaped face
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: khuôn mặt hình trái tim
• Ví dụ: Jennifer Love Hewitt is the perfect example of the heart-shaped face

10, chubby (adjective) /ˈtʃʌb.i/

• Định nghĩa: (esp. of children) rounded in a pleasant and attractive way
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: phúng phính
• Ví dụ: The perfect baby has, we are told, chubby little fingers and toes, chubby legs, and chubby cheeks.

11, fresh-faced (adjective)  /ˈfreʃ.feɪst/

• Định nghĩa: looking young
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: khuôn mặt tươi tắn
• Ví dụ: He was a fresh-faced youth who look as though wouldn’t melt in his mouth

12, high cheekbone (noun) /haɪˈtʃiːk.boʊn/

• Định nghĩa: your malar bones are located closely below your eyes, giving a more sculpted shape to your face
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: gò má cao
• Ví dụ: She has the high cheekbones of a supermodel.

Mô tả tóc – Vocabulary to describe hair

1, Go grey  (phrase)

• Định nghĩa: to have hair that is turning grey 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc bắt đầu ngả bạc
• Ví dụ: Some people is going grey in their 30s. 

2, Blonde (adjective) /blɔnd/

• Định nghĩa: with pale yellow or gold hair
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc vàng
• Ví dụ: Who’s the blonde talking to Bob?

3, Dyed hair (noun)

• Định nghĩa: change the colour of something using a special liquid
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc nhuộm
• Ví dụ: He dyed his hair black.

4, Ginger /’dʤindʤə/ (adjective)

• Định nghĩa: a red or orange-brown colour
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: đỏ hoe
• Ví dụ: His nickname was Ginger because of his ginger hair.v 

5, Straight hair (noun)

• Định nghĩa: hair which has no curl
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc thẳng
• Ví dụ: I have fine, straight hair, so drying it take h no more than five minutes a day. 

6, Wavy hair /’weivi/  (noun)

• Định nghĩa: having a series of curves
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc lượn sóng
• Ví dụ: Sarah has wavy blond hair.

7, Curly hair /’kə:li/ (noun)

• Định nghĩa: having a curving shape, like part of a circle
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc xoăn
• Ví dụ: He should keep his curly hair short.

8, Bald (adjective) /bɔ:ld/

• Định nghĩa: with little or no hair on the head
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hói
• Ví dụ: At 20 he was already going bald.

9, Untidy (adjective)  /ʌnˈtaɪ.di/

• Định nghĩa: not neat or well-arranged
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: không chải chuốt, rối xù
• Ví dụ: Roy’s pale skin turned grey, matching his untidy hair, which had been mousy brown the last time she’d seen him.

10, Neat (adjective) /ni:t/

• Định nghĩa: arranged well, with everything in its place
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc chải chuốt cẩn thận
• Ví dụ: This trend is also best styled with natural-looking make-up and neat hair.

11, Plait (verb) /plæt/

• Định nghĩa: to join three or more pieces of hair or string-like material by putting them over each other in a special pattern
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc được tết, bện
• Ví dụ: She plaited the horse’s tail.

12, A fringe (noun) /frindʤ/

• Định nghĩa: an area of hair hanging over the forehead (= part of the face above the eyes) that is cut shorter than the rest of the hair
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: mái tóc cắt ngang trán
• Ví dụ:  Fringes can require slightly more effort than the rest of your hair, since they are more likely to get greasy.

13, Ponytail (noun)  /ˈpəʊ.ni.teɪl/

• Định nghĩa: a hairstyle in which the hair is tied up high at the back of the head so that it hangs down like a horse’s tail

14, Cropped hair (noun phrase) /krɒp heər/ 

• Định nghĩa: very short hair 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc tém, cắt rất ngắn
• Ví dụ: Cropped hair can be interpreted in many different ways. 

15, Disheveled hair (noun phrase) /dɪˈʃev.əld heər/ 

• Định nghĩa: untidy hair 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: đầu tóc bù xù
• Ví dụ: The beggar has disheveled hair and wears ragged clothes.

16, Fair hair (noun phrase) /feər heər/ 

• Định nghĩa: blond hair 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc màu sáng
• Ví dụ: He’s got fair hair and blue eyes. 

17, Thick hair (noun Phrase) /θɪk heər/ 

• Định nghĩa: a lot of hair 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc dày
• Ví dụ: I used to have thick hair before dyeing it. 

18, Shoulder – length hair (noun phrase) /ˈʃəʊl.dəˌleŋθ heər/ 

• Định nghĩa: hair that comes down to the shoulders and no further 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tóc dài ngang vai
• Ví dụ: My mom’s shoulder-length hair was bound with tight turbans.

1, medium height (noun phrase) /ˈmiːdiəm haɪt /

• Định nghĩa: If something is of medium size, it is neither large nor small, but approximately halfway between the two.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: chiều cao trung bình 
• Ví dụ: Of medium height, he is inclined to stoutness, and is of light complexion.

2, a slender figure (noun phrase) /ˈslɛndə ˈfɪgə/

• Định nghĩa: describe a thin or lean physique
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: thân hình mảnh khảnh (cao và gầy)
• Ví dụ: Her tall slender figure stood like a lonely reed at the riverbank. 

3, well-built (adjective) /ˌwel ˈbɪlt/

• Định nghĩa: of a person, large and strong
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: vạm vỡ
• Ví dụ: He is well built and broad-shouldered with fair hair cut short at the sides.

4, to lose one’s figure (collocation)

• Định nghĩa:  If you lose your figure , you become rather fat.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: người bị mất vóc dáng, trở nên mập mạp hơn trước
• Ví dụ: As a result of binge eating disorder, patients can gradually lose their figures and develop some health problems

5, hourglass figure (noun phrase)

• Định nghĩa:  woman’s body measurements- the circumference of the bust, waist and hips
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: Vóc dáng đồng hồ hồ cát
• Ví dụ: She has an hourglass figure.

6, well-proportioned figure (noun phrase) /wel prəˈpɔːʃənd ‘figə/

• Định nghĩa: having the correct or desirable relationship between constituent parts with respect to size, number, or degree.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: cân đối
• Ví dụ: He had an athletic build, muscular and well proportioned. 

7, plump (adjective) /plʌmp/

• Định nghĩa: having a pleasantly soft, rounded body or shape
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tròn trĩnh
• Ví dụ: He’s got rather plump since I last saw him.

8, stocky (adjective) /’stɔki/

• Định nghĩa: A stocky person, especially a man, is fairly short and has a body that is wide across the shoulders and chest
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: chắc nịch
• Ví dụ: The man was described as short and stocky and very strong.

9, stout (adjective) /stout/

• Định nghĩa: (especially of older people) fat and solid-looking, especially around the waist:
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hơi béo
• Ví dụ: Mrs Blower was the stout lady with the glasses.

10, slim figure (noun phrase) /slɪm ˈfɪɡ.ər/

• Định nghĩa: attractively thin figure 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: dáng người mảnh mai
• Ví dụ: Many girls nowadays want to keep a natural slim figure.

11, overweight (adjective) /ˌəʊ.vəˈweɪt/ 

• Định nghĩa: to weigh more than is regarded as healthy 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: thừa cân
• Ví dụ: Jack used to be overweight when he was a kid.

1, to be well turned out (phrase) /ˌwel ˈtɜːnd aʊt/ 

• Định nghĩa: to be dressed very nicely 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt : ăn mặc sáng sủa
• Ví dụ: He’s always well turned out, so I’m sure she’ll come to dinner in an elegant suit. 

2, to dress (up) to the nines (phrase)

• Định nghĩa: to dress very smartly and glamorously, typically for a formal event 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: ăn mặc lịch sự, sang trong, đặc biệt trong những sự kiện trang trọng
• Ví dụ: Every guests will be dressed (up) to the nines at the wedding. 

3, to dress to kill (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: intentionally wearing clothes that attract sexual attention and admiration 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hớp hồn ai đó bởi sự ấn tượng và lộng lẫy
• Ví dụ: Hailey’s not very good-looking. However, she’s always dressed to kill, which helps her grab a lot of attention from others.

4, scruffy (adjective)  /ˈskrʌf.i/

• Định nghĩa: untidy and looking a little dirty
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: ăn mặc luộm thuộm
• Ví dụ: Teenagers these days prefer wearing scruffy jeans and a T-shirt because these are comfortable.

5, as ugly as sin (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: very ugly 
• Nghĩa tiếng Việt: miêu tả một ngoại hình vô cùng xấu xí
• Ví dụ: She loves her cat so much despite it is ugly as sin.

6, to have an eye for sth (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to be good at noticing a particular type of thin
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: có mắt thẩm mỹ về
• Ví dụ: She has an eye for detail.

7, go out of fashion (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to no longer be trendy or fashionable
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: lỗi mốt
• Ví dụ: If skinny jeans ever go out of fashion, I’ll have no pants to wear.

8, hand-me-downs (noun)

• Định nghĩa: a garment or other item that has been passed on from another person.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: quần áo cũ của anh hoặc chị nhường lại cho em mặc
• Ví dụ: They received hand-me-downs and toys from relatives and friends

9, look good in (idiom)

• Định nghĩa:  to be visually appealing or attractive
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: mặc vào thấy đẹp
• Ví dụ: You look good in the blue trend coat 

10, have a sense of style (collocation)

• Định nghĩa: awareness of what is tasteful or fashionable
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: có gu 
• Ví dụ: These guys have a sense of style to make a man weep — high boots, poncho, beret, and a nasty silver knife hidden in the belt.

11, fashionable (adjective) ˈfæʃ.ən.ə.bəl/

• Định nghĩa: popular at a particular time
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hợp mốt, thời trang
• Ví dụ: It’s not fashionable to wear short skirts at the moment.

12, on trend (adjective)

• Định nghĩa: very fashionable
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hợp mốt
• Ví dụ: The proposed new name is on trend with today’s marketplace.

13, well-dressed (adjective) /ˌwel ˈdrest/

• Định nghĩa: wearing attractive and stylish clothes
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: ăn mặc đẹp
• Ví dụ: Although there is nothing desperately original about the basics of the exercises, they are well-dressed, with an historical twist.

14, must-have item (noun)

• Định nghĩa: something that is essential to have or obtain
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: món đồ thời trang cần phải có
• Ví dụ: This T-shirt is a must-have item for this summer.

15, worn out (adjective) /ˌwɔːrn ˈaʊt/

• Định nghĩa: something that is worn out can no longer be used because it is so old or because it has been damaged by continued use
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: mòn, sờn, hỏng
• Ví dụ: If you treat your coat so roughly, it will be worn out soon.

16, high-end clothes (noun)

• Định nghĩa: of very good quality and usually expensive

17, mix and match (verb) /ˌmɪks ən ˈmætʃ/

• Định nghĩa: to use different objects, styles, products, etc. together in an attractive or effective way

• Ví dụ: Students can mix-and-match with other options, such as engineering and economics or management.

18, Brand-name clothes (noun)

• Định nghĩa: the name given to a particular product by the company that makes it

• Định nghĩa: to do something very carefully and well, in a way that gives you a lot of satisfaction

• Ví dụ: He takes pride in his appearance, setting a high standard to exemplify his healthy leadership style.

22, a slave to fashion (noun)

• Định nghĩa: to be so strongly influenced by something that you cannot make your own decisions – used to show disapproval
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: nghĩa đen: nô lệ thời trang (nghĩa bóng: những người luôn bị ám ảnh bởi chuyện ăn mặc hợp thời trang và chạy theo xu hướng)
• Ví dụ: You don’t need to be a slave to fashion.

23, not a hair out of place (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: If someone does not have a hair out of place, their appearance is very neat:
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: đầu tóc gọn gàng
• Ví dụ: She was as immaculate as ever – not a hair out of place.

24, cut a dash (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to have a smart or striking appearance
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: tán dương vẻ bề ngoài của ai đó, khen ngợi người khác với phong cách thời trang và trang phục mà họ mặc.
• Ví dụ:  I was strongly impressed with Amanda on that day. She totally cut a dash in that sparkling blue evening gown

1, to bear a striking resemblance to sb / a spitting image of sb/ be a chip off the old block (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to look extremely similar to someone 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: rất giống ai đó/ giống ai như đổ khuôn
• Ví dụ: Stunt performers are required to bear a striking resemblance to main actors

2, a head turner (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: someone or something that attracts a lot of attention 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: ai/ cái gì rất cuốn hút, làm người khác phải quay lại ngắm nhìn
• Ví dụ: She was a real head-turner, and every man would look around and watch her go past.

3, to make up (v)

• Định nghĩa: to use cosmetics 
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: trang điểm
• Ví dụ: She always spends hours making up before going out.

4, easy on the eye (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: pleasant to look at/listen to
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: ưa nhìn, dễ nhìn. Nó không chỉ được dùng cho người mà còn có thể dùng để miêu tả vật.
• Ví dụ: I don’t prefer guys who are too handsome and charming. Instead, my man just needs to be warm-hearted and easy on the eyes, if possible. 

5, pretty as a picture (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: very attractive or pleasant to look at : very pretty.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: đẹp như tranh vẽ thường được sử dụng cho nữ giới.
• Ví dụ: He immediately fell in love with My at first sight because she is pretty as a picture.

6, over the hill (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: used for describing someone who is old and no longer useful or attractive
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: người cao tuổi
• Ví dụ: Grandma! You say you’re over the hill, but actually you’re still a super cook!

 7, no spring chicken (noun) /ˌsprɪŋ ˈtʃɪk.ɪn/

• Định nghĩa: a young person; usually used in negative contexts to say someone is no longer young
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: người hơi già, vừa qua tuổi thanh niên.
• Ví dụ: How old is the owner? I don’t know but she’s no spring chicken!

8, mutton dressed as lamb (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: a middle-aged or old woman dressed in a style suitable for a much younger woman.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: đã trung tuổi nhưng cố làm cho mình trẻ hơn bằng cách ăn vận trang phục và phong cách của người trẻ.
• Ví dụ: The style is not suitable for her because she looks like a mutton-dressed-as-lamb female!

9, knee-high to a grasshopper (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to be very short or very young.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: rất bé bỏng và còn nhỏ.
• Ví dụ: Look how tall you are! Last time I saw you, you were just knee-high to a grasshopper!
