• Định nghĩa: a book that explains how to prepare particular dishes

• Ví dụ: The windows of the bookshop were filled with vegetarian and vegan cookbooks.

2, Encyclopedia /ɪnˌsaɪ.kləˈpiː.di.ə/

• Định nghĩa: a book or set of books containing many articles arranged in alphabetical order that deal either with the whole of human knowledge or with a particular part of it, or a similar set of articles on the internet
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: bách khoa toàn thư
• Ví dụ: The new edition of the encyclopedia embodies many improvements.

3, Textbook /ˈtɛkstbʊk/

• Định nghĩa: a book that contains detailed information about a subject for people who are studying that subject
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: sách giáo khoa
• Ví dụ: The information in textbooks also becomes outdated quickly, and therefore details of recent research and developments are not always included.

4, Novel /ˈnɑvl/

• Định nghĩa: a long printed story about imaginary characters and events

5, Picture book /ˈpɪktʃər bʊk/

• Định nghĩa: a book, especially for young children, that has a lot of pictures and not many words

6, Reference book /ˈrɛfrəns bʊk/

• Định nghĩa: a book of facts, such as a dictionary or an encyclopedia, that you look at to discover particular information

• Định nghĩa: a magazine or book that contains a set of stories told in pictures with a small amount of writing

• Định nghĩa: one that is written with the intention to instruct its readers on solving personal problems

1, to be engrossed in something (phrase)

• Định nghĩa: If you are engrossed in something, it holds your attention completely.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hoàn toàn tập trung vào cuốn sách
• Ví dụ: She was so engrossed in the book that she forgot the cookies in the oven.

2, couldn’t put it down (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: If you cannot put a book down, you are unable to stop reading it until you reach the end
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: không thể đặt xuống
• Ví dụ: It was so exciting from the first page I couldn’t put it down.

3, a profound impression (noun)

• Định nghĩa: a strong effect or influence that remains for a long time
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: ấn tượng sâu sắc
• Ví dụ: He also, apparently, left a profound impression on them, and many depicted him in paintings.

6, to have your head/nose in book (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to be reading (a book, magazine, newspaper, etc.)

7, to read something into something

• Định nghĩa: to believe that an action, remark, or situation has a particular importance or meaning, often when this is not true

• Ví dụ: Don’t read too much into her leaving so suddenly – she probably just had a train to catch.

8, to let one’s imagination run wild

11, take something as read (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to accept that something is true without making sure that it is

12, to be blown-away (adjective)

• Định nghĩa: to surprise or please someone very much

Thành ngữ về sách – Idioms about BOOKS 

1, Judge a book by its cover (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: said to show that you cannot know what something or someone is like by looking only at that person or thing’s appearance
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: trông mặt mà bắt hình dong
• Ví dụ: When it comes to being mixed-race, what I have learnt is that human beings always judge a book by its cover.

2, Hit the books (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to study
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: học hành chăm chỉ.
• Ví dụ: If you want to pass the final exam, you need to hit the books.

3, Cook the books (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: to change numbers dishonestly in the accounts (= financial records) of an organization, especially in order to steal money from it
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: thay đổi số liệu kế toán một cách không trung thực hoặc vi phạm luật pháp
• Ví dụ: Whether it’s them attempting to cook the books or whether it’s them dismissing the official scorekeeper as fake news, it’s the same outcome.

5, To be an open book (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: a person or thing that is easily understood or interpreted.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: có thể dễ dàng hiểu được mọi thứ về ai 
• Ví dụ: He thinks of his business as an open book.

6, Read someone like a book (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: understand someone’s thoughts and motives clearly or easily.
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hiểu rõ ý nghĩ, cảm giác của người nào đó. 
• Ví dụ: To be honest, I can read my sister like a book! 

7, Take a leaf out of someone’s book (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: behave or to do something in a way that someone else would; to copy something that someone else does because it will bring you advantages
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: có nghĩa là học theo, noi gương ai đó.
• Ví dụ: Do you think I should take a leaf out of her book and start reading books every evening?

8, In someone’s good books (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: If you are in someone’s good books, they are pleased with you
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: dùng để thể hiện rằng ai đó hài lòng với một ai đó. 
• Ví dụ: I always do my homework, so I think I’m in my teacher’s good books

9, A closed book (idiom)

• Định nghĩa: a subject about which you know or understand nothing
• Nghĩa Tiếng Việt: hoàn toàn không biết gì
• Ví dụ: Bio-technology is totally a closed book to me
